February Challenge: Winter Bug Count

🐛February's Challenge is all about the bugs! 🦋

Did you know a lot of bugs in Alberta live throughout the winter? But how, you ask? Better yet, how do we find these bugs...and why is it important? Let's talk to Briana from the Biogeoscience Institute with the University of Calgary to find out more!

As Briana explained, there is a Winter Bug Count happening right now! The project closes at the end of February, so what better time to submit your data to Citizen Science?!

Here are your challenges for the month of February:

  1. Submit a photo of a winter bug to iNaturalist within the month of February - this will automatically be added to the Winter Bug Count project on iNaturalist. Alternatively, we can upload it to iNaturalist your behalf (make sure you tell us your name so we can give you credit)!
  2. Create a bug made from recycled materials and send us a photo by email (education@greencalgary.org) or social media accounts!
  3. Tell us a fun fact about your favourite bug you see here in Calgary by email (education@greencalgary.org) or social media accounts!

Once you've completed one of the challenges, you’ll be entered into the contest to win the BIG nature prize pack! Winners will be announced in June.

🎉Here is a sneak peak to the prize pack! 🎉
