Gearing up for summer fun

Preparations are in full swing for our pilot Citizen Science program. We'll be introducing kids at the Boys and Girls Club this summer to the limitless opportunities to get involved with real world science projects as amateur scientists. We'll take the students outside, helping to make the natural world come alive for them in new and exciting ways.

This summer our focus will be on observing bumble bees and submitting our findings to Bumblebeewatch.org. Did you know that there are 27 different species of bumble bees in Alberta? Bumble bees perform a crucial role as pollinators, yet their numbers are in decline. We'll learn about the important services that bumble bees provide, as well as how to find and identify them. We'll then look at ways we can help to conserve and protect them.

A big thank you to our sponsors who help make this program possible: TD Friends of the Environment, and Alberta Ecotrust.
